Avionica, Inc. (Miami FL, USA) announces the availability of Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) ST03021AT certifying the installation of its SecureLINK wireless router on the Boeing 727 series of aircraft. The STC is held by Avionics Support Group (ASG). Certification on additional fleets, at diverse global points is currently underway. The certification follows a successful trial of the SecureLINK router at a major US express cargo carrier, that has been using SecureLINK to receive flight data collected on an Avionica miniQAR for several months. Raul Segredo, President of Avionica, indicates “The SecureLINK and miniQAR have been working reliably in tandem, transmitting data to the carrier’s WAN without human intervention”.

SecureLINK’s integral 7 port Ethernet switch enables other onboard devices to communicate with each other, and once on ground, enables seamless wireless communications with the airline’s landside WAN. SecureLINK establishes secure bidirectional communications using 802.1X authentication and encryption standards. Applications include flight data downloads, automatic Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) synchronization, navigation chart updates, Out Off On In (OOOI) time transmissions, last-minute weather data, Point Of Sale (POS) data, and more. “SecureLINK quickly pays for itself in labor savings, and by re-replacing the expensive ACARS link for non-critical data communications”, says Raul.
